25 Apr Top Tips for Sharp Eco Prints
How do you care for your eco printed textiles to ensure that they give years of use? At the beginning I always washed mine by hand but nowadays I pop them in my washing machine on the wool setting (usually at 20 to 30 degrees Celsius) and add the same gentle olive oil soap that I used when preparing them prior to printing. These particular silk tops line drying in the image above have been worn and washed for at least 3 full years each and as you can see the colours are still vibrant. I eco printed them in the dirty pot without using traditional powdered mordants but I also use the same soap when washing pieces printed on mordanted fabric and naturally dyed fabric. Here’s a link to a very short video sharing how I create this liquid soap from a solid bar. Please note that this is exactly the same way I would make it for wet felting!
