29 Apr The most simple + helpful gardening tip!
One of the simplest and most helpful things that I’ve done in the garden is install a couple of IBC tanks to harvest rainwater and add a tap to the one up by the print and dye borders. I try and only to grow plants that thrive in the Irish growing conditions but it’s particularly helpful to have water available for any that are a little out of their comfort zone. For example, there are a few ligularia that I added for height in the borders outside the garden studio but hadn’t appreciated how raising the beds by about 9 inches would impact on the drainage. They would definitely prefer moister conditions so rather than moving them I use water that I’m gathering from the studio roof to water them in the summer. Adding a tap to the tank has made this SO much easier, now all I need to do is run the hose down to the plants and give them a good soak when necessary. If you’re interested in a short step-by-step tutorial sharing how I attached the tap (faucet) I documented the process and shared it on YouTube.
