The Artist

Nicola Brown

Since her introduction to textiles in 2007 Nicola Brown has studied extensively in Ireland, Europe and the US to learn new techniques and develop her fine art textile practice. As a mature student, Nicola choose not to go down the traditional art college route but instead attends technique specific workshops, masterclasses and symposia with international tutors whose work she admires. This is an ongoing process. In addition to felting, her current practice explores the use of eco printing to impart colour directly from organic materials onto silk, wool, handmade felt and vintage linen. Since the summer of 2017 Nicola has added organic indigo into the mix and her installation “Transient Blues” was one of the pieces selected for Sculpture in Context 2018. This annual exhibition takes place at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin during September and October and is a must visit for any sculpture enthusiast.

As well as creating exhibition pieces and work for sale Nicola delivers regular group and bespoke textile workshops from her purpose built studio at Clasheen and at selected venues in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. She also offers a suite of online classes throughout the year for those that are short of time or not in a position to travel and participate in a person to person workshop. Please consider joining her workshop email list to be kept up to date with  upcoming events.

Since 2012 Nicola and US felter Dawn Edwards have moderated the international group FeltUnited, currently there are over 6500 members active on Facebook.
