22 Dec My first completed pair of Wayfarer Shoes!
My first completed pair of Wayfarer Shoes by Twig + Tale are finished. I made these in a combination of eco printed and naturally dyed nuno felt, locally woven lambswool and upholstery wool. Both the eco printing and dyeing were done in a reactive pot without traditional powdered mordants.
Super comfortable, even though I made a HUGE boo boo on the sole liner of the second shoe. I’d double checked, incorrectly as it turned out, trimmed the different layers of fabric then only discovered the problem once I turned the shoes right side out so it was too late to remedy. All the seams on the inside of the left shoe are exposed, meaning that it isn’t reversible.
We learn by experience though, even if this is a salutary tale. I have to keep reminding myself that I never thought I’d be able to sew at all, following patterns and understanding concepts was my biggest nightmare. At the end of the day, I’ll wear these with pride and am now almost finished my second pair, complete with rabbit skin insole! Watch this space.
