Organic indigo vat

Organic indigo vat

My heart was in my mouth as I set up a new organic indigo vat and documented the process for club members. My personal preference is to use an iron vat but I only had a certain amount of slaked lime (calcium carbonate) and didn’t want to make a mistake. Graham Keegan’s indigo vat basic instructions are my saviour every time, search online if you haven’t read them before. Although he doesn’t recommend using this particular vat for protein based fabrics I’ve never had any issues myself.

Here are a few detail shots of an eco printed silk scarf over dyed while @kimthittichai was visiting recently. Patric of @greening_couleur is my go to for a selection of beautiful organic indigo powders; each variety of indigo gives a subtly different colour.
